This thesis evaluates indoor air quality (IAQ) in the context of ASHRAE Standard 241, developed to mitigate airborne infectious diseases post-COVID-19. Using real-time CO₂ monitoring and a custom risk assessment tool, the study assessed Purdue University buildings—including Mackey Arena and two dining courts—as well as a senior living facility with UV disinfection. The research quantified Equivalent Clean Airflow (VECAi) and compared it to ASHRAE 241 targets under Infection Risk Management Mode (IRMM). Most assessed spaces failed to meet VECAi thresholds, highlighting critical ventilation and filtration gaps. The study recommends practical engineering interventions like improved filtration, outdoor airflow, and GUV systems. The risk tool developed serves as a decision-making aid for building compliance with ASHRAE 241.
