Sagar and Michael are two young men who live within a few miles of each other but are from vastly different worlds. Sagar, a recent immigrant, is headed to graduate school. Michael, a gangbanger, robs a drug dealer who he later finds out is connected and needs seven thousand dollars to stop the dealer’s nephew from killing him. He decides to rob Sagar’s home located in a white middle-class suburb, but the robbery goes wrong when Sagar’s brother is killed. Sagar is wrongfully taken into custody where he sets out to track down Michael and his accomplices, immersing himself in a world alien to him. Michael flees California but on his way to Denver, runs into more trouble which endangers the lives of his loved ones. The only way out for him is to forsake the only life he has ever known. Based on true events, this novel explores immigration, the American Dream, justice, and redemption.
